UPSC Interview Transcript of Yogesh Patil (AIR 231, 2018)

Interview stage is most interesting stage i found among the 3 stages of UPSC. I appeared for interview in my very first attempt this year(2019) .

As this was my first attempt, i was fearful about the interview stage, as I had very vague idea about this stage. But somehow managed to prepare with the help of Coaching and guidance.
My interview was on 12th Feb, 2019 in the afternoon session. So I woke up early ( i was very nervous so couldn't sleep well), got freshen up, did some exercise, talked to my mother ( who was praying for me) . Reached UPSC Bhavan ( Dholpur House) around 12 PM.
They let us in around 1 PM. Then they verified our documents. There were 30 student ( 6 students per board) including me were waiting for interview. Verification went on for an hour. I interacted with fellow students of my board. I was 6th to go i. e. last in my board.
Around 2.15 interview started. One by one every board started. But our board started very late around 2.40 PM. By delay we guessed that B S Bassi Sir would be our chairman.

Interview started, one by one student went for interview. I was 6th to go, so I was calm. To keep me alert and not sleepy I used to drink Coffee. Around 5.15 PM all 29 students went and I was the single person ( along with some staff) in waiting room.
At 5.25 PM a person came to take me to Interview room. I sat outside chairman's cabin. At that time my heart was beating very fast. I somehow managed to maintain calm and cool.
Finally went in , greeted lady member, chairman and all other members. Chairman asked me to sit.
Chairman was already looking into my DAF( Detailed Application Form).

People always say, keeping lady member happy is key to good marks. Maybe I was able to do that.
CHAIRMAN
1) Continuing with discussion he asked my opinion that should we thrash a person involved in eve teasing.
-Thia was a tricky question. As Bassi Sir himself had worked in community policing and women safety, he expected a good answer.
I said beating is not a solution, but convincing a person is way forward. In this we can take help of society, family, education.

But he kept on pushing me to beat the person. At one stage he said.. I am your boss, either you thrash him or go home. I still said no sir, i was firm on my stand.
At last he said atleast slap him. To that I said, I will follow the law, rulebook.
He was happy with that answer and smiled finally ( rarely Bassi sir gives this expression)
He said, Your Interview is over and you can go now.
I thanked the chairman and board and left the room.
So finally at 6.05 PM my interview ended. I was the last students to exit from UPSC.
Finally it was relief that all stages of exam are over.
